This original intake manifold comes from a 1999 Yamaha XJ 600 Diversion (600 cc, 49,000 km) and the seller lists it in good condition. On this carburetted four-cylinder, each manifold connects a carburettor to the head; with age the rubber hardens and cracks, creating an air leak that leans out the cylinder concerned. An air leak shows up as an unstable or rising idle, flat spots on acceleration and one cylinder running hotter. Check that the rubber is supple and crack-free in the folds, fit it with a new gasket on the head side, seat the carburettor fully and tighten the clamps correctly.
